Five days... four nights... the adventure of a lifetime!

Become a part of the crew of the schooner A.J. MEERWALD.

Sailing and living aboard a historic tall ship, you’ll learn to raise and furl sails, coil lines, navigate, and steer the boat.

With deckwashes, sea chanteys, knots, and standing watch, you will truly become a tall ship sailor.

2008 Dates & Locations

Maritime Camp #1 (grades 9-12)
June 23rd-27th

This camp will depart from Cape May, NJ; sail up the Atlantic Coast, and through New York Harbor ultimately arriving at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ.  Campers will experience sailing on the Atlantic Ocean, investigate marine life, learn about the environment, become a part of the crew, stand watch, learn how to raise sails, coil lines, navigate and steer the vessel.  Evening activities will include sea chanteys, night sailing, maritime literature readings, journaling, and more...

Maritime Camp #2 (grades 9-12)
July 28th-August 1st

This camp will depart from Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ (next to the Statue of Liberty); sail through New York Harbor, down along the Atlantic Coast arriving in Cape May, NJ.  Campers will experience sailing on the Atlantic Ocean and become part of the crew, sailing and living aboard an authentically restored tall ship.  Campers will learn traditional maritime skills including raisi ng and furling sails, coiling lines, navigating, night sailing, and steering a 115’ vessel.  With deck washes, sea chanteys, knots, and standing watch, campers will truly become tall ship sailors!

 

Ages: 13 to 16 years old

Cost: $750 includes onboard accommodations, meals, and activities

All overnight programs are carried out by experienced BDP staff.  Staff to camper ratio is nearly 1:1 onboard the schooner.  Transportation is provided to and from all shore-based activities during the camp.  Campers are responsible for transportation to and from the schooner.  The program is fully insured and the schooner is certified by the U.S. Coast Guard.

MARITIME CAMP REGISTRATION

To reserve a space or for more information please call (856) 785-2060 ext 107. Space is limited to 6 campers and will be filled on a first come first serve basis. $150 non-refundable deposit is required upon registration. Payment can be made by phone with Visa or Mastercard. Campers will receive a packet containing a list of what to bring, a Medical Release Form and a Permission Slip. These forms must be signed and brought to the ship by the camper on the day of their sail.
